Imagine spending the day racing around the city from “pit
stop” to “pit stop” while competing against your
colleagues in different games and activities. Employees at Thermo
Fisher Scientific were up for the challenge - competing in the Amazing
Race to Cure Cancer!
Not only did this exciting event raise funds for important research
at The Ottawa Hospital’s Centre for Innovative Cancer Research
(CICR), it was a great opportunity for Thermo Fisher Scientific’s
employees to give back to the community while having fun!
At the last stop Thermo Fisher Scientific presented TOHF with a
donation of a Centrifuge, equipment that spins blood into separate
components for lab examination. Every chemotherapy patient must
undergo blood work, making this one of the most common pieces used
by staff at TOHCC every day.
Congratulations to all the participants on a fantastic event, and
thank you for supporting our ground-breaking cancer research!

Thermo Fisher Scientific made a difference by donating new equipment
to the Hospital. Over three years, the company donated a -80 C freezer,
a Cryostat machine and a Synergy Multi-Reader to the University
of Ottawa Eye Institute at the Hospital—together worth over
$92,000.
These machines are welcomed by Eye Institute scientists like Dr.
Cathy Tsilfidis, who is developing a novel gene therapy that holds
great promise for people suffering vision loss caused by glaucoma,
diabetes and hypertension.
With a new vision research centre soon to open at the General Campus, community
support will be instrumental in helping scientists find new treatments and possible
cures for age-related vision disorders.
