The Ottawa Hospital Foundation is pleased to celebrate NAV CANADA employees for their ongoing support of cancer care and research at The Ottawa Hospital through NAV CANADA’s Growing Hope campaign.
To recognize their generosity, a waiting room in The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre has been named in honour of NAV CANADA employees.
On behalf of the thousands of patients whose lives will be touched by the generosity of NAV CANADA, thank you!
2010 marked the third annual NAV CANADA’s Growing Hope fundraising campaign for The Ottawa Hospital.
It also marks an astonishing achievement by NAV CANADA and their employees who raised a staggering $300,000!
The money raised will equip the Centre for Innovative Cancer Research (CICR) with the tools and resources needed to carry out this groundbreaking research.
In recent months, Dr. John Bell and his team of researchers have made significant progress in understanding how oncolytic viruses work and how best to combine them with other therapies.
Thanks to NAV Canada, this research is giving new hope to cancer patients in our community and around the world!

In April 2010, NAV CANADA was awarded the Philanthropic Group Award by The Ottawa Hospital
The Ottawa Hospital Foundation hosted its “Let’s Celebrate!” event on April 22, 2010 in the Critical Care Wing at the General Campus. The program included an awards portion honouring outstanding contributors to the 20-20 Campaign, including Philanthropic Group of the Year winners NAV CANADA for raising $500,000 in two years with its workplace campaigns.

Under the leadership of their President and CEO, John Crichton, staff at NAV CANADA held their inaugural workplace campaign in 2008 to raise funds for the purchase of an image guidance system on a Linear accelerator.
Committed to a five-year, $500,000 fundraising goal in support of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, the company had hoped to raise $50,000 in employee contributions, to be matched with a corporate gift. Employees doubled this amount, and a cheque for $204,022 was presented two months after the launch of their campaign to purchase radiation treatment equipment.
In 2009, the campaign raised $244,000 to build a chemotherapy bay in the new Cancer Centre.
An impressive total of $448,000 raised in only two years!
And now in 2010, NAV CANADA’s focus shifts to cancer research—specifically to the study of oncolytic viruses.
Dr. John Bell, along with team members Dr. Harry Atkins and Dr. Rebecca Auer are leading the world in developing promising new therapies called oncolytic viruses. These viruses infect and destroy many types of cancer without harming normal cells. They also help the body’s immune system recognize and attack the tumour to prevent regrowth of cancer cells.
We are grateful to NAV CANADA for their ongoing commitment to ensuring the best care possible for our families, our friends and our colleagues.
