Karen Taylor was well-known throughout The Ottawa Hospital
as a highly skilled and passionate nurse who was dedicated
to life-long learning. In 1997, after Karen succumbed to
breast cancer, her family launched an annual golf tournament
at Manderley on the Green to support the Karen Taylor Nursing
Research Endowment Fund.
On August 5, 2007, the tournament celebrated its 10th anniversary
and two nurses from the Emergency Department at the Civic
Campus were awarded a Baccalaureate Bursary ($5,000) and
a Master’s Bursary ($10,000) to continue their nursing
studies.
Pictured here, Riek van den Berg, Corporate Coordinator,
Nursing Education (left), and Karen’s sister, Janice
McIntyre, RN, Recovery Room, announce the 10-year fundraising
total of $280,000. Karen’s Fund is one of Canada’s
largest nursing endowment funds.
