Civic Campus - Intensive Care Unit
The issue
- Growth in patient demand has been rising by 10 per cent annually
since 1996.
- The ICU runs at 106 per cent capacity on an ongoing basis.
- Outdated equipment and cramped facilities hamper the staff’s
ability to provide the best possible care.
The solution
- A $5.9-million renovation project slated for completion in 2009.
Expected benefits
- Installing state-of-the-art equipment, such as monitors and
ventilators, to meet the demands of patient care and complex diseases
and injuries.
- Expanding patient areas, storage and teaching areas.
- Ensuring patients have access to natural light to encourage
faster recovery.
- Taking advantage of modern ergonomic solutions such as the "medical
service columns" for better patient care.
This capital expansion project will cost a total of $5.9 million.
The Ontario government committed $4.1 million and requires that
we seek $1.8 million in community support to complete this project.
