(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) – Shoppers Drug Mart was
honoured by The Ottawa Hospital Foundation at a dinner on Wednesday
evening for raising $55,000 for The Ottawa Hospital during its annual
Tree of Life Campaign.
Shoppers Drug Mart’s annual Tree of Life Campaign, which
ran from August 19 to September 15, asked customers to support local
and national charities by buying a leaf for $1, a maple leaf for
$5 or an apple for $50. Of the proceeds raised in Ottawa and Eastern
Ontario, The Ottawa Hospital will receive 75 per cent, with the
other 25 per cent going to support national health care charities.
The funds raised for the Hospital will be directed to its new Critical
Care Wing at the General Campus, which will house 17 new operating
rooms, a state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit and the newly opened
Ottawa Pain Centre.
“We’re just thrilled at the success of this campaign,”
said Susan Doyle, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
“Shoppers Drug Mart and its generous customers can take pride
in knowing that they’ve contributed to the construction of
a facility that will change the face of health care in our community.”
“These results are incredible and a true testament to the
generosity of our customers and staff,” said Shoppers Drug
Mart Pharmacist/Owner Bashir Surani. “Shoppers Drug Mart has
always been active in our communities. This year we are pleased
that we were able to support The Ottawa Hospital through our Tree
of Life Campaign. We thank our customers and staff for taking this
initiative to heart and really making a difference.”
