Ottawa Race Weekend Participants Raise $509,000 for The Ottawa Hospital

(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) – Thanks to the amazing efforts of thousands of supporters in the community, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation raised $509,000 as part of the 2006 Ottawa Race Weekend. Once again, runners, walkers, in-line skaters and their supporters donated or collected pledges to make the annual fundraising effort an incredible success.

Since 1998, the event has raised $4.5 million for The Ottawa Hospital.

“We are proud to be the local charity of choice of the Race Weekend. It’s incredible to see so many people in Ottawa and beyond take up the challenge to support The Ottawa Hospital during this event,” said Susan Doyle, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. “The actions of Race Weekend participants will have a profound impact on all our loved ones and countless others in our community.”

Proceeds from this year’s Race Weekend will help fund a number of key projects, including the new Critical Care Wing under construction at the Hospital’s General Campus. This Wing will include 17 state-of-the-art operating rooms, 32 Intensive Care Unit beds and a new Chronic Pain Management Centre. Many Race Weekend participants are also directing their funds to other programs such as cancer care and research.

The Ottawa Race Weekend, Canada's premier running festival, combines competition, participation and fundraising to make a distinctive contribution to the health of the community.
