New Guardian Angel Program Lets Grateful Patients Pay Tribute
to Ottawa Hospital Staff
(OTTAWA,
ONTARIO) – The Ottawa Hospital and The Ottawa Hospital
Foundation today launched their Guardian Angel Program. The Program
offers a unique way for grateful patients and their families to
thank a nurse, doctor or other Hospital staff for their lifesaving
work, while supporting The Ottawa Hospital. The honoured staff member
receives a special angel lapel pin.
At the official launch event at the Hospital’s General Campus,
two grateful patients pinned their guardian angels. Marie-Eve Chainey,
a kidney dialysis patient, thanked Dr. Deborah Zimmerman from the
Kidney Care Centre at the Hospital’s Riverside Campus. Ms.
Chainey contracted a severe blood disease and has no renal function;
she must hook up to a dialysis machine almost every night.
Roger Bryanton and his wife, Cindy Scott, honoured Marta Grey,
a staff nurse at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre at the
General Campus. Mr. Bryanton was paralysed in a serious car accident
and is now confined to a wheelchair. He spent eight months in the
physical rehabilitation centre learning to regain his independence.
“We are thrilled to offer this meaningful way for grateful
patients and their loved ones to honour an Ottawa Hospital caregiver
or employee who has gone above and beyond the call of duty,”
said Susan Doyle, President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
“At the same time, these donors are supporting excellent health
care for our community by helping the Hospital buy new equipment
and build better facilities.”
“Every day, I see the staff and physicians at The Ottawa
Hospital perform exceptional work,” said Dr. Jack Kitts, President
and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital. “The Guardian Angel Program
is the perfect way for the community to pay tribute to these compassionate
and dedicated individuals.”
Patients can recognize any staff member at the Hospital, including
doctors, nurses, support and admitting staff, cleaning staff, etc.
