Endocrine and Diabetes Centre Named in Honour of Million-Dollar
Donor
(OTTAWA, ONTARIO) – The Ottawa Hospital
Foundation today honoured million-dollar donor Peter Foustanellas
at the official naming ceremony of the Foustanellas Endocrine and
Diabetes Centre at The Ottawa Hospital’s Riverside Campus.
Mr. Foustanellas, the founder of Argos Carpets and Olympia Homes,
made his donation in spring 2005. This is his family’s second
million-dollar gift to the Foundation’s five-year, $100-million
Legacy Campaign. In 2004, the Foustanellas family donated $1 million
toward the expansion of the Hospital’s Civic Campus emergency
department.
“We are extremely grateful to have generous donors, like
Mr. Foustanellas, who are supporting ongoing improvements at the
Hospital,” said Susan Doyle, President and CEO of The Ottawa
Hospital Foundation. “Thanks to his leadership, thousands
of patients and their loved ones will have access to improved education
and treatment of diabetic and endocrine diseases."
The Centre opened in November 2004 as part of renovations to turn
the Riverside Campus into a state-of-the-art, rapid access ambulatory
centre. It is the first "one-stop-shop" for diabetes and
endocrine disorders in Eastern Ontario, bringing together patient
care, education and research services—previously located at
various sites—all under one roof.
With its 1,130 beds, The Ottawa Hospital is one
of the largest teaching hospitals in Canada. It provides comprehensive,
high-quality, patient-focused health care services, in English and
French, to over 1.5 million residents of Eastern Ontario, and specialized
and complex services for residents of Northeastern Ontario. For
