In June 2007, the expansion of the Acquired Brain Injury at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre program was completed, thanks in part to more than $800,000 in donations by individuals and organizations in our community. This expanded, modern facility will allow the professionals at TRC to help brain injury patients maximize their independence and improve upon the health and quality of their lives.

The issue

• This year, hundreds of people in our community will suffer a brain injury that requires intensive rehabilitation.
• Rehabilitation for traumatic brain injuries includes re-learning basic life skills like how to walk, eat and talk.
• Current brain injury rehabilitation services at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre (OHRC) are outdated and split between two locations.

The solution

• The OHRC must upgrade and consolidate all brain injury rehabilitation services under one roof to better serve its patients.

The results

• Double the space and more than double the number of available beds.
• Updated equipment and increased resources.
• Increased educational and research capability to improve brain injury recovery.
• A consolidated and expanded team to offer exceptional, continuous care in one facility.
