Finding Balance in Helping Others
In an increasingly busy world, people often struggle to find a
balance between their work and their home life. Bruce Wolfgram found
a solution for his busy life – volunteering for The Ottawa
Hospital Foundation.
“It really puts my life back in balance,” says this
Vice-President, DTZ Barnicke, a commercial real estate advisory
firm. “It’s a great feeling to be involved with such
a fantastic organization.”
As a longtime volunteer with the Foundation, Bruce helps ensure
the success of the annual President’s Breakfast, among other
activities. He is also a member of the Foundation’s President’s
Council, a group of donors who commit to long-term financial support
for the Hospital, with annual donations of $1,000 or more.
Volunteer work is important to Bruce, who also gives his time to
causes like the United Way. “Being in business can be very
stressful and it is nice to do something for the community,”
he says. “And the Foundation has to be one of the few places
to volunteer at where you do one seemingly small thing and five
people take the time to say ‘thank you.’”
Bruce feels strongly that community and business leaders must do
their part to support the Hospital.
“People need to step back and realize that if they are successful
in life and business, they should give back to the community that
helped make that possible,” he explains. “There is a
strong link between your personal success and the community infrastructure
that surrounds you, including the Hospital. By supporting health
care, you are doing something to better society and to better yourself.”
